Alec Brook-Krasny

New York State Assemblymember, District 46

Alec Brook-Krasny is the New York State Assemblymember for the 46th district — the first Soviet-born member of the New York legislature, who returned to Albany in 2022 as a Republican.

Born March 2, 1958, in Moscow, Brook-Krasny immigrated to the United States in 1989 and founded the Funorama children’s entertainment center in Brighton Beach. He served AD-46 as a Democrat from 2006 to 2015 — the first Soviet-born member of the New York legislature — before resigning for the private sector.

Arrested in 2017 in the “Operation Avalanche” opioid case, he was acquitted of all felony charges in 2019 and the remaining misdemeanors were dismissed. He returned to the Assembly in 2022 as a Republican, defeating incumbent Mathylde Frontus 52%–48%, and was re-elected in 2024 over Democrat Chris McCreight.
