About the Brooklyn GOP

The Kings County Republican Committee is the official county affiliate of the New York Republican State Committee for Brooklyn — the party's organization, ballot-line holder, and grassroots engine in the borough.

Who we are

County committees are the legal backbone of party politics in New York State: they hold the Republican ballot line in Kings County, nominate candidates, run petition operations, and elect the party's local leadership. Ours is made up of county committee members elected by enrolled Republicans in each of Brooklyn's Election Districts — neighbors, not careerists.

Brooklyn's Republican tradition is older than the consolidated city itself. This borough sent Republican mayors to Brooklyn City Hall, produced the only Republican borough president, and gave America two of its most recognizable Republicans — both born here. Today, southern Brooklyn is the center of the most significant urban political realignment in the country, and this committee is its organizing force.

Liam McCabe 2025 – present

Elected on the unity slate at the Bay Ridge Manor, backed by the entire Brooklyn GOP elected delegation.
Ted Ghorra 2016 – 2023

Led the party through the 2021 council wins and the 2022 Assembly flips.

Brief tenure bridging to the Ghorra era.

A Republican Borough, Then and Now

2021

Inna Vernikov becomes the first Republican to represent a Brooklyn district on the City Council since 2002.
2022

The breakthrough: three Assembly seats flip red (Chang, Brook-Krasny, Novakhov), and Vito LaBella comes within 534 votes of a State Senate seat.
2024

Steve Chan flips SD-17 — the seat drawn as NYC’s first Asian-majority Senate district — completing the sweep of southern Brooklyn.
2025

Vernikov re-elected with 97.6%; Liam McCabe elected county chairman on a unity slate signed by the entire elected delegation.
2026

Vernikov named Council Minority Whip. Every Brooklyn Republican incumbent defends their seat on November 3.
